The story of Margarete Steiff is filled with fairy tale quality that grew to become the world’s most famous soft toy company. Responsible for the Teddy bear, the world’s most favourite soft toy. Margarete was born in 1847. At 18 months old she contracted polio, she was to spend her life in a wheelchair. This remarkable woman became a skilled seamstress. Little did she know she was laying the foundation stone for the international company of the future. Celebrate Margarete Steiff’s 175th birthday with this elegant Teddy bear. She wears a double tied bow and a cameo with the first company logo of 1897. Margarete’s signature and date of birth are detailed printed on her paw pads.
