The original of this magnificent cockerel dates back to Steiff's early years, as long ago as 1892, when Margaret Steiff  still made the toys with her own hands.

 filled with fine wood shavings and crafted from finest felt, which is still supplied by the "Vereinigte Filzfabriken" factory in Giengen who supplied felt for Margaret at the very beginning.

  Skilled fingers create this cockerel from numerous separate layers graded in 12 cheerful colours and he surveys his domain with keen glass bead eyes.

 As the legendary button in ear had not yet been introduced in 1892, this cockerel is given the first official button with an elephant logo.
